Educational opportunities and outcomes for minority students can be improved through specific programs and practices that have proven to be effective in enhancing educational equity and fostering high academic achievement for minority students. The Mid-Atlantic Equity Center can provide educators with assistance in identifying and implementing innovative programs and practices designed to improve schools and minority student achievement through the following approaches:

• Creating more effective schools for children of diverse races, ethnicities, and cultures
• Improving school safety through prejudice reduction and anti-bias strategies
• Identifying effective instructional strategies for improving the academic achievement of minority students
• Increasing the participation of students of diverse races, ethnicities and cultures in high level, academically challenging courses and programs
• Complying with Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
• Increasing the participation of parents of diverse races, ethnicities, and cultures in the educational process.
