Educational opportunities for language minority students are often limited by discrepancies between their native languages and cultures and those of the U.S. public schools they attend. To improve educational opportunities for language minority students, the Mid-Atlantic Equity Center provides technical assistance and training in the following areas:

• Legal responsibilities of educational agencies serving language minority students
• Effective instructional practices for language minority students
• Cross-cultural awareness and communication
• Involvement of parents of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
• Preparation and development of teachers for language minority students
