The Mid-Atlantic Equity Center is funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It is one of ten federally-funded Equity Assistance Centers (formerly called "Desegregation Assistance Centers") across the nation that provide technical assistance and training services to school districts. The Center specializes in three program areas: race, gender, and national origin equity.

The Center provides the following types of assistance in each of its program areas:

  • Administrative consultations
  • Staff development
  • Training-of-trainers workshops
  • Data analysis
  • Program evaluation
  • Consultations on civil rights compliance issues
  • Identification of resources
  • Needs assessment
  • Dissemination of information and materials

All services are provided without charge to elementary and secondary public schools in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
