Special Education Program Associate and English Language Learner Coordinator
The Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. (MAEC) seeks a dedicated educator to join a team of dynamic school reformers. MAEC works cooperatively with educators and parents in the Mid-Atlantic Region, to introduce policies, programs and strategies that contribute to closing the achievement gap.
The Special Education Program Associate and ELL Coordinator will work with teachers and administrators to create more supportive and effective learning environments for special needs and minority students, particularly English Language Learner students. The candidate must be a fluent Spanish speaker/reader/writer and must possess skills in the following areas: providing assistance and training to special needs educators and parents, concentrating on ELL populations; networking at the state and local levels to provide special education resources to families; coordinating conferences; researching information and statistics related to program needs; and developing publications. Knowledge and experience related to special education, minority achievement and/or gender equity is essential.
Qualifications:
BA (Masters preferred) in special education or related field
At least 2 or more years of classroom or special educational administration experience
2 or more years of providing training
Excellent writing, speaking and editing skills
Knowledge of k-12 education issues
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated initiative, ability to work well with others, and detail oriented
Salary is negotiable depending on experience. Paid vacation and excellent benefits (medical & life insurance, pension benefits).
